2017 was a particularly successful year for jumps racing in South Australia, and there were some notable successes for locally-trained horses. Grant Young’s Spying on You winning the 2017 Great Eastern Steeplechase was the highlight of year — the first time an SA-trained jumper had won the state’s biggest chase since 2003.
There were five other South Australian jumps winners — Distillation (Nick Smart), Nishiazabu (Kevin and Heather Free), Searaven (Barry Brook) and Cable Bay (Shane Oxlade), who had two wins.
The infographic below breaks the season’s statistics and highlights both the higher participation rates and the success rate of SA trained jumpers over the course of the season.
